METAL SCULPTURE

There is a whimsical and light hearted element present in my works. Like my childhood collection of insects secured in a jar with perforated paper and a rubber band. The oversized insects have now out grown their jar. They take the form of the large Katipo spider with a configuration of red jaffers sweets, stuck to its abdomen. The tusked wetas lead tipped sinker antenna, with its all encompassing cartoon eyes. The stick insect who belies the gravitational pull of ballast weighted deform bar as if like a determined moon bug adamantly in denial of its weight.

The methodology of fabricating by slotting together and spot welding was made effective. This process gives the art object an immediate and economic form. Founded on the principle of planar construction and, formally a movement of the Russian constructivist school the Bauhaus. The means of the planar surfaces define and quantify an area of space within these separate space divisions. These structural planar divisions provide the skeletons and what we perceive to do most effectively is flesh out the rest.
 
HOW TO ORDER

The KIWI, TUATARA and WETA make ideal garden sculpture. Each design can come in two different styles.
Natural Corten Steel, which is a weathering steel, has a surface rust effect without affecting it's structure.
Painted Steel, automotive lacquered paint treated with rust inhibited etch primer (so no natural rusting).
